Since the inception of Lego during the 1930’s this construction toy has remained popular with generations of children. They were first made in Denmark by Ole Kirk Christiansen as basic building blocks but over the last decade there has been an explosion in Legos based on themes from movies. From Indiana Jones, Harry Potter and the ever popular Star Wars this plastic building toy grows in popularity every day.

Brightly colored plastic blocks for young children are ideal for them to develop manipulation skills. Teenagers and adults will love the complex sets and vehicles with their huge assortment of difficult models to build.

One of the most popular is the Star Wars sets which have developed considerably since being introduced during the 1990’s, with figures and sets reproduced from the Star Wars original trilogy. Since this time all the newer Star Wars series has been faithfully reproduced in Legos including scenes, figurines and vehicles. Figures are the standard shaped blocks with square heads and bodies although they are produced using special molds.  Star Wars characters are all here including, of course, the major characters in a selection of poses and clothes, including Princess Leia in a variety of outfits and Darth Vader in a transformation set where he is transformed from Anakin Skywalker. Star Wars Legos continue to be the most popular sets produced.

Another very popular theme is the Harry Potter series and you can construct Professor Lupin’s Classroom and the House of Gryffindor Set as well as attend Snape’s Class or visit Hagrid’s Hut. Figurines in this series include Harry Potter dressed in various outfits. Ron Weasley, Dumbledore, Hagrid and everyone of the famous characters from the movies. Also obtainable are goblins, dementors and trolls. Harry Potter Legos are some of the most popular sets made.

As well as themes from the movies Lego also produce other sets to excite your child’s imagination including medieval castles and knights, robots, dinosaurs, construction vehicles and many, many more. For teenagers and adults who prefer more technical toys you can buy Lego Technics based on trucks and actual machines. These sets are more complicated to assemble and include steering and suspension systems. They are available for a variety of different abilities so you might want to start with an easier set and progress to the more intricate designs as you improve your skills.

Legos continue to increase in popularity as these high quality building toys, that fire the imagination of children everywhere, continue to be developed. The huge range of Legos means that there is sure to be a set just right for your child!
