What are local SEO services?
Local SEO is the work of making a business findable by people searching nearby with intent to buy. It covers three surfaces that behave differently: the map pack that appears above the normal results, the organic listings underneath it, and increasingly the AI answers that summarize both.
Each surface is won differently. The map pack runs largely on your Google Business Profile, your review volume and velocity, and whether your business details are consistent everywhere they appear. Organic listings run on your website: whether it is technically sound, whether its pages match what people search, and whether other credible sites reference it. We work all three, because a business winning one and losing the others leaves most of the demand on the table.
What does technical SEO involve?
Making sure nothing on your site prevents it being found. That means pages that load quickly, a structure search engines can crawl without getting lost, no accidental instructions telling them to ignore your best pages, and structured data that tells them what your business actually is.
Most of this is invisible to visitors and decisive for search engines. It is also where the fastest wins usually sit, because a site that has never been audited almost always has something quietly broken: a page blocked from indexing, a title truncated to nothing, a whole section with no internal links pointing at it.
What does on-page and content SEO involve?
Deciding what each page should rank for, then making the page genuinely the best answer to that question. It starts with keyword research, which is less about volume than about intent. A term with modest traffic from people ready to buy is worth more than a popular one asked by people doing homework.
From there it is the unglamorous work: titles that fit and lead with the query, headings that mirror how people ask, copy that answers in the first paragraph rather than the fifth, and internal links so your strongest pages pass credibility to the ones that need it.
Why local search matters more than most owners expect
For a business serving a defined area, the map pack usually generates more visibility than the website does. It is also the part most businesses neglect, because it lives outside their site and nobody owns it.
The mechanics are unglamorous and they work. A complete profile with the right categories and real photos outperforms an abandoned one. Reviews arriving steadily outperform a burst two years ago. And business details that match exactly across every directory outperform ones that disagree, because inconsistency makes a search engine less certain you are one real business. That last one is the most common problem we find and the least visible.
How long does SEO take?
Early movement in four to eight weeks, meaningful movement on competitive terms in three to six months. Technical fixes can register quickly. Overtaking a competitor who has held a position for years takes longer, because you are being asked to demonstrate relevance they have already proved.
We report from month one regardless, so you can see the direction before the results arrive.
How is this different from paid advertising?
Advertising buys attention now and stops when the budget stops. Search earns attention slowly and keeps most of it afterwards. They answer different problems: if you need inquiries this month, advertising is the answer, and if you want a channel that costs less every year rather than more, that is search.
Most businesses eventually run both, using ads to cover the months before search matures, then reducing spend as organic takes over. We will tell you which one your situation calls for first.
What does SEO cost?
It is a monthly retainer, scoped to the work your situation actually needs. A business with a sound site and a neglected profile needs something very different from one starting with no site at all, so we quote after looking rather than from a price list.
Every engagement starts with a free audit of where you currently rank, what is technically wrong, and what your listings look like. You get that read whether or not you go on to work with us.
How do we start?
A thirty-minute call and an audit. We look at your current positions, your profile, your listings and your site, and tell you what we would do first and what we would leave alone.
Where we work
We run SEO for businesses across the United States. If you are in northeast Kansas, our Lawrence SEO page covers how we work in that market specifically.
| Timeframe | What we are doing | What you should expect to see |
|---|---|---|
| Month 1 | Audit, technical fixes, profile and listings cleanup, keyword set agreed | Baseline report, technical issues resolved, listings corrected |
| Months 2 to 3 | On-page optimization, content on priority terms, internal linking | Movement on lower-competition terms, impressions rising ahead of clicks |
| Months 4 to 6 | Content depth, citations and links, ongoing profile activity | Page-one positions on target terms, inquiries attributable to search |
| Month 6 onward | Compounding: new terms, refreshing what has decayed | Steady growth, lower cost per inquiry than paid channels |
SEO services: common questions
Can I do SEO myself?
Parts of it, yes, and we will show you which parts. Keeping your Google Business Profile current, gathering reviews, and answering customer questions on your own site are all things an owner can do well because they know the business better than any agency will.
What is harder to do yourself is the technical diagnosis, the keyword research that separates a term worth chasing from one that only looks good, and the discipline of publishing consistently. If you have the hours, take the first list. If you do not, that is what a retainer is for.
Do I have to sign a long contract?
No. We work month to month. SEO needs continuity to compound, and leaving after two months wastes the money you already spent, but we would rather earn the next month than lock you into twelve.
How long before SEO produces results?
Expect early movement in four to eight weeks, and meaningful movement on competitive terms in three to six months. Technical fixes can show up quickly. Ranking for a term several established competitors already own takes longer, because you are being asked to demonstrate relevance and credibility that they have accumulated over years.
Anyone promising page one in thirty days is either targeting terms nobody searches or doing something that will cost you later.
Is SEO worth it for a small business?
It depends on whether people search for what you sell. If your customers find businesses like yours by typing a need into Google, then yes, and it is usually the cheapest inquiry you will ever buy because it keeps working after you stop paying for it. If your customers come entirely from referrals or a trade counter, your money is better spent elsewhere.
The honest test is search volume plus intent. A term with two hundred searches a month from people ready to buy is worth more than one with twenty thousand from people doing homework.
What happens to my rankings if I stop?
They decay rather than collapse. The technical and on-page work stays in place, and pages that have earned links keep them. What stops is the compounding: no new content, no new citations, no response when a competitor overtakes you or an algorithm update shifts the field.
Most sites hold position for a few months and then drift. How fast depends on how competitive your market is.
